After 13 years as civil engineer on rural development projects in Kenya, Indonesia and Bangladesh, he gradually transformed into a professional development specialist, setting up Cambridge Professional Development (CamProf) in 1994 working in UK and across Europe; CamProf incorporated in Canada in 2011. Nigel has expertise in: competencies, professional development, regulation, employability, international mobility, cultures, immigration, refugees, assessment, qualifications, open badges, qualification frameworks, learning through experience, recognition of prior learning, quality, international project design & management. As well as 30+ projects in Canada, he was a leading partner in 20+ pan-European projects, and projects for government agencies in Belgium, Finland, Germany, Poland, Turkey and UK. He helped evaluate Canada’s implementation of the Lisbon Recognition Convention and readiness for the UNESCO Global Recognition Convention for CICIC (Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials, part of the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada, CMEC) https://www.cicic.ca/docs/2020/CamProf_report_Substantial_Agreement.pdf He helped develop the UK’s competency-based National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) system, especially for the technical and professional levels. He is known for his commitment to the competency movement, promoting the uptake of occupational standards and competency profiles, in business and the professions in most sectors, across Europe and Canada. Nigel holds both Canadian and British citizenships.
